What to Expect on the Day of a Breast Augmentation + Lift Surgery

The procedure will take place at a surgical suite in Chevy Chase, MD, outside Washington, MD. After reviewing your treatment plan with Dr. Economides, you will be given general anesthesia, putting you into a restful state of relaxation.

Dr. Economides will create an incision and remove excess skin that caused your breasts to sag. Afterward, Dr. Economides will carefully insert the implants into pockets above or below the pectoral muscle, depending on the technique. Finally, he’ll close the incisions with sutures.

You’ll need to be taken home by a contact arranged ahead of time, as it will not be safe to drive yourself.

The First Two Weeks

Light walking is encouraged to promote healthy circulation, but avoid lifting, cardio, and other moderate or strenuous activities. Sleep on your back to avoid placing pressure on your implants or healing incisions, and most patients are able to return to desk work after about one week.

Weeks 2-6

Continue avoiding submerging your incisions in baths, pools, and hot tubs for at least 4 weeks, although you may shower as instructed by Dr. Economides, typically 24 to 48 hours after surgery. Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so he can monitor your healing, incision sites, and implant position while your breasts continue to settle.

Months 3-6 and Beyond

As swelling resolves gradually, your implants continue to “drop and fluff,” allowing your breasts to soften and settle into their intended position. Most patients appreciate their final breast shape, projection, and overall results within approximately 3 to 6 months.
