Dr. Economides

Dr. James M. Economides, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and founder and medical director of Ikon Plastic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Economides earned his bachelor’s degree in biology magna cum laude from Georgetown University, received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed a six-year integrated plastic surgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital. He is a Phi Beta Kappa member.

His expertise spans surgical and nonsurgical aesthetics, with particular interests in deep plane facelifts, facial rejuvenation and complex breast revision surgery. He also performs blepharoplasty, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty and body contouring, emphasizing individualized treatment and natural-looking results.

Dr. Economides has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters, including research on social media’s influence on plastic surgery and patient perceptions. He lectures nationally and internationally, serves as a reviewer for plastic surgery journals and teaches and mentors Georgetown plastic surgery residents. He also serves as the President of the Georgetown Clinical Society and on the Executive Committee of the National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons.

His commentary has appeared in Bloomberg, and his honors include Top Doctor recognition from Washingtonian Magazine, Arlington Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, DC Modern Luxury, and Castle Connolly. His international experience includes studying microsurgery in Taiwan and volunteering for cleft surgery with Operation Smile in Vietnam.

Dr. Economides has practiced as a board-certified plastic surgeon since completing residency in 2019. He was previously with Advanced Plastic Surgery Center in Arlington, Virginia, and in 2026 became the founder and medical director of Ikon Plastic Surgery & Medical Aesthetics in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

He has 40+ peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters in plastic and reconstructive surgery and has presented/lectured at national and international conferences. He has also served as a reviewer for major plastic surgery journals.

He remains connected to Georgetown, including teaching/mentoring plastic surgery residents and serving on the Georgetown Clinical Society’s leadership.

He’s also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
