What to Expect on the Day of Chin Augmentation Surgery

At Ikon Plastic Surgery, we understand that the day of your chin augmentation surgery can cause some anxiety and nervousness. We aim to help our patients feel comfortable, safe, and supported on the day of surgery by calmly and clearly communicating what to expect during the surgery, including the pre-operative, operative, and post-operative measures.

You will be given local or general anesthesia, depending on your comfort and the extent of the procedure. If you get a chin augmentation implant, Dr. Economides will make an incision either below your chin or inside your mouth to create a pocket for the custom implant. He will place the implant on the chin bone and position it safely before using sutures to close the incision. He will wrap bandages and specialized compression garments around the closed incision to prevent infection.

If chin fat grafting is used, Dr. Economides will make a tiny incision in your thigh, abdomen, or hip and use liposuction to vacuum out the fat. He will process and purify the fat to isolate the healthy, durable fat cells, then inject them into the target areas of the chin to meet your goals.

The procedure typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on the extent of the correction. You will be safely driven home to recover in the Washington, DC, area.

Chin Augmentation Recovery

Immediately After Surgery

Wear your compression garment continuously for about one week, or until Dr. Economides advises you that it is no longer needed.

Weeks 2-3

Most patients are able to return to desk work within 7 to 10 days. Continue avoiding strenuous exercise, including cardio, heavy lifting, and other vigorous activities, while your tissues continue to heal. Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments so Dr. Economides can monitor your progress and guide your recovery.

Months 1-3 and Beyond

As swelling continues to subside, your new chin contours become increasingly defined and balanced with the rest of your facial features. Your final results gradually emerge over the following months as your tissues fully settle.
