What to Expect on the Day of PRP Hair Restoration Treatment

On the day of your PRP hair restoration, you will return to our office in Chevy Chase outside Washington, DC. Dr. Economides will review your treatment plan with you and clear up any questions you may have.

To begin the treatment, a numbing agent will be applied to your arm and scalp. When the numbing effect takes place, Dr. Economides will take a blood sample and place it in a centrifuge to separate the nutrient-rich growth factors. After this is complete, he will inject the newly created PRP sample into the thinning areas of your scalp. This will feel like a quick prick or mild pinch, but the numbing agent makes it easily tolerable.

The session will take around 30 to 60 minutes, depending on how many areas are targeted. You can return to most regular activities the same day.

Days 2-3

Continue avoiding intense exercise, saunas, prolonged direct sunlight, and anti-inflammatory medications for the first 3 days, as these can interfere with your body’s natural healing response. If needed, a cold compress or over-the-counter pain medication can help relieve mild discomfort.

Months 2-6 and Beyond

Hair restoration is a gradual process that follows your natural hair growth cycle. Many patients begin noticing improvements in hair thickness within 2 to 3 months, with more significant increases in density becoming apparent after 4 to 6 months. For long-term results, Dr. Economides may recommend periodic maintenance treatments as part of your personalized hair restoration plan.
